By 1986, as a result of contribution of funds from sale of the old site, grants from the SSDC, County Council, and funds raised by the villagers, the new large village hall was built on land kindly donated by the Ryall family.
When the new hall was built, records show that there were more under 18’s in the village than today and therefore the village hall was geared to their requirements. Currently, the hall reflects the original purpose of the building, with emphasis on sporting activities.
The Village Hall is run by a committee of management trustees made up of village residents but they do not have sole responsibility for organising events. The Village Hall can be hired out for various activities so please contact a member of the village hall committee if you are planning an event.
The Marden family kindly donated the land for the playing field. In 2007 substantial funds were raised by villagers, Lottery funds, grants and donations for the play equipment, which includes climbing apparatus, slide, swings and zip wire and football area.
Today, the Village Hall is used for a number of events, including the following:
- Short mat bowls – Monday evenings.
- Badminton – Wednesday evenings.
- Private badminton group – Thursday evenings.
- Harvest Supper – annually (approx. 95-100 villagers attend).
- Social use by the Pony Club.
- Village Christmas party after annual Church Carol Service.
The Village Hall Committee is made up of Elected Members, Co-Opted Members and Representative Members. We are currently seeking nominations for new Elected Members. This would be an ideal opportunity to join in organising exciting new events. Contact the Village Hall Committee at: email@example.com
